Photo Galleries from our 2019 Iceland Cruise

In 2019, Sharon and I went on a marvelous cruise around Iceland on the Queen Victoria. It was a marvelous experience! We left Southampton, made a port call in Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, then circumnavigated Iceland before heading back to England via Glasgow and Dublin.

Lerwick, Shetland Islands

July 31, 2019. Our first port call. The Shetland Islands are incredibly lush and green; you can understand why ponies and sheep love the place! Lerwick is a charming little city, and the archaeological site at Jarlshopf is amazing.

Akureyri, Northern Iceland

August 2, 2019. Our first stop in Iceland. Highlights include the Goðafoss waterfall, the Hverir geothermal area, and a large, shallow lake called Mývatn.

Ísafjörður, Fjords Region of Iceland

August 3, 2019. Our next stop was in the sparsely populated Fjords region of northwest Iceland. Fishing is — and always has been — a major industry in this place.

The Golden Circle

August 4, 2019. The Golden Circle tour is a popular bus tour route that visits some of the amazing sights in the Reykjavik area. For me, the highlight was Þingvellir, the site of the medieval Icelandic parliment. It is located at the rift zone between the North American and the Eurasian tectonic plates.

Flightseeing

August 5, 2019. A flightseeing tour of southwest Iceland. Spectacular! You have to see Iceland from the air to understand just how amazing the landscape is, almost like a different planet.

Glasgow

August 8, 2019. A visit to historic Stirling Castle.
